The final item on the modern kitchen remodel list is several separate work areas including a desk or office area.

The layouts for modern kitchens are slightly different than those of yesteryear. In the past kitchens tended to be secluded rooms that were isolated from the dining area. This allowed people to prepare meals without their guests being able to see the mess associated with cooking for a large number of people.

Modern kitchen remodels, however, are now focusing on open floor plans where the kitchen is open to the dining and living areas. This allows the host to socialize with his or her guests while preparing the food and drinks.

People are spending more money than ever on their kitchen remodels. This is because people want high end products that are durable and that look great. This is especially important if the people are fixing up their home to sell because the kitchen is a money room. When selecting products, appliances and materials for a modern kitchen remodel it is important to keep up with design trends, to keep in mind the taste of the homeowners and to select products that make sense for the house.

Cabinets account for a large portion of the kitchen remodel budget. To save money you have the option of simply replacing or even refinishing the cabinet faces. This is a good option if the cabinets themselves are fine but simply need updating. If you need to replace the entire cabinet then you will want to select a cabinet design and finish that compliments the design of the kitchen and that meets the functional needs of the people who will be using them.

Appliances are another big ticket item. When selecting appliances it is important to select quality products that have coordinating finishes and that make sense for both the size and design of the kitchen. Keep in mind that your appliances will outlast current design trends, so try to select an appliance package that won't look dated in 5 or 10 years.

Flooring is the final big ticket item that you need to think about when remodeling a modern kitchen. Sheet vinyl has replaced linoleum as the top flooring option for kitchens. However, travertine, granite, ceramic tile, hardwood and laminate floors are also popular flooring choices for modern kitchens.
